New Smyrna Beach, FL - A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Friday to welcome Florida Hospital New Smyrna to the Florida Hospital family.
The event took place at the hospital's William W. Schildecker outpatient center entrance at 401 Palmetto Dr., New Smyrna Beach on April 8 from 11 AM to 1 PM.
"On April 1, Bert Fish Medical Center joined the FL Hospital family officially," says Lindsay Rew, spokeswoman for Florida Hospital East FL Region. That's when Adventist Health System, which owns and operates Florida Hospital, officially bought Bert Fish Medical Center. The hospital was then renamed Florida Hospital New Smyrna as it joined the East FL Region of Adventist Health System which includes FL Hospital DeLand, FL Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast, Florida Hospital Medical Center in Daytona Beach, and FL Hospital Oceanside in Ormond Beach.
According to Rew, this will "provide many benefits to the residents of the southeast Volusia community." Those benefits include reducing taxes and infusing the facility with "funds necessary for capital and service improvement."
Adventist Health System announced on April 7 that Ken Mattison, CEO for FL Hospital Flagler, was appointed CEO of FL Hospital New Smyrna. Rew says Mattison "will serve in a dual role until May 1 when Dr. Ronald Jimenez becomes CEO for Florida Hospital Flagler." Jimenez is currently the Chief Medical Officer for FL Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach.
