DeLand, FL -Update: After a machine and manual recount, the Volusia County Office of Elections has declared Bill Hall the winner in the race for Mayor of South Daytona. After manually counting over/under votes not included in Tuesday's unofficial results, the Office of Elections has confirmed that Hall did in fact beat George Locke III by only 5 votes. The recount had Hall at 1,306 votes, and Locke at 1,301. Original Reporting: Only five votes separate two men, so Volusia Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis today says a recount has been ordered in the race for mayor in South Daytona. The Volusia County Canvassing Board acted on the official results of the Tuesday night Primary Election. The recount will take place Friday morning at 9AM at the Department of Elections in DeLand. Bill Hall got 1302 votes or 50.10% and George Locke III got 1297 votes or 49.90%. Lewis says if the machine recount indicates that a manual recount is required, the manual recount will begin immediately following the machine recount. 2016 Southern Stone Communications Copyright.
