Reckless Driver Charged With Child Abuse Near DeLand

  man handcuffs crime arrest DeLand, FL-A 35-year-old man faces charges of DUI, reckless driving, attempting to elude a police officer and two counts of child abuse. Volusia County deputies attempted to stop a silver sports utility vehicle, driven by Cory Phillips, around 2 A.M. on Friday.  The vehicle was traveling westbound on Beresford Ave and had failed to stop at a stop sign. Deputy Newman gave chase but lost sight of the vehicle. He later found the vehicle crashed at the intersection of Beresford Avenue and Summit Ash Court in DeLand. Phillips was taken into custody by Sheriff's deputies on the reckless driving and attempt to elude charges. The two children in the vehicle had minor injuries and were taken to Sanford Hospital. DeLand Police charged Phillips with DUI and the two child abuse charges. Bond on all charges was set at $6,500. Cory Phillips
