Flagler County, FL - The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has recently given $1.57 million to Flagler County to improve 2.4 miles of County roads on the west side of the County. Lanes on County Road 2009 between County Road 305 and Lake Disston were widened from 9 to 11 feet, given 6 feet of stabilized, sodded shoulders as well as stormwater structures. The project has been completed ahead of the June 30 expected completion date. The labor and equipment were provided by Public Works. Site preparation, traffic maintenance, shoulder and swale grading, preparation of the roadway, installing the roadway base, sodding and installing sign were also the responsibility of the department. “The money for the project came from the DOT’s Small County Outreach Program,” says Faith Alkhatib, County Engineer. “We were able to do some of the work in-house.” 4C's Trucking and Excavation were contracted by the County to do the box culvert extension and P&S Paving Inc. was contracted to do the asphalt milling, paving and striping of the roadway. “It’s nice when we can do some of the work in-house,” says Craig Coffey, County Administrator. “We try to have one project a year like this, where we can complete some of the work ourselves. It helps us to spread our resources further.”
