Daytona Beach, FL - Two Ormond Beach residents locked up in connection to a Daytona Beach gas station robbery may soon be charged in at least three others in Ormond Beach in the past 10 days.
The Ormond Beach Police Department is looking into 34-year-old Shane P. Miller (left) and 27-year-old Chelcie R. Darder (right) for those incidents less than 24 hours after the Daytona Beach Police Department arrested both of them for the robbery of a RaceTrac on West International Speedway Boulevard.
OBPD Officer Keith Walker says no charges have been filed yet against Miller and Darder for the three other incidents, including two this past weekend at a CVS Pharmacy and a Circle K convenience store.
According to the DBPD arrest report, Miller entered the RaceTrac - located off the eastbound lanes of U.S. 92/ISB and just east of Interstate 95 - at 1:11 a.m. Tuesday, grabbed a can of Arizona Macho Mango and went to the register to pay.
It was when the worker opened the register drawer that Miller - who was wearing a blue shirt - reached over the counter, snatched the till from the inside and took off running towards the nearby La Quinta Inn with $214 in cash inside the till, per two RaceTrac employees.
K-9's managed to track Miller to the parking lot of the La Quinta, but the trail was lost at that point, leading to DBPD sending out a "Be On The Lookout" notice to nearby agencies for a silver Saturn four-door vehicle which officers thought he may have left the scene in.
A Volusia County Sheriff's Office deputy found a car matching that description soon after the BOLO was sent at another RaceTrac station on the intersection of LPGA and Williamson boulevards, around four miles north of the ISB RaceTrac. The vehicle was pulled over when a deputy saw a man inside that vehicle changing out of a blue shirt.
Miller and Darden - who was in the driver's seat when the Saturn was pulled over - refused to speak to officers after each was read the Miranda warning, but Darden did tell some officers that Miller wasn't armed when he went in the store and that he only "snatched and grabbed" the till, per the report.
Both were arrested after one of the ISB RaceTrac employees ISB store identified Miller as the robber. Officers on scene also managed to find the till and the drink Miller left the store with, per the report.
As of Noon today, Miller is held on $20,000 bond at Volusia County Jail on a felony charge of strong arm robbery, while Darden is held on $20,000 bond on charges of accessory to a robbery, no valid driver's license and giving a false name to police.
VCJ records show Miller has been booked there at least 20 times since December 2004, including earlier this month on a trespassing charge.
