DeLand, FL - Residents now have an opportunity to meet with the candidates out to be the new DeLand Fire Department Chief.

That will happen tonight (March 7th) at six o'clock at the Sanborn Activity and Event Center off Alabama Avenue.

According to Chris Graham, the Community Information Specialist for DeLand, three candidates are considered for the open fire chief spot following a national search.

Those candidates include Todd Allen, Fire Chief of Freeport, Illinois; Chief Fire Officer Bruce Angier with the Broward County Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue; and Ken Prillaman, former Fire Chief of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

One of those men will be chosen to fill the spot once held by former Fire Chief Dan Hanes.

Back on October 3rd of last year, Hanes was rushed to the hospital following a cardiac emergency. He passed away the next day

"It took a while to let our firefighters heal," said Graham. "Now we need someone to lead the department."

Graham said a selection committee and staff from the fire department will interview the candidates throughout the day and discuss the candidates on Friday (March 8th). The city hopes to have a choice soon after that.
