Port Orange Woman Indicted For Husband's Murder

Daytona Beach, FL - A 34-year-old Port Orange woman is now behind bars after a grand jury indicted her for the murder of her husband earlier this year.

Latoya Woodard was booked at Volusia County Jail last night (November 15th) on a second-degree murder charge, hours after the indictment was handed down. She's currently held without bond.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Andrew Gant says it's the culmination of months of work by the Major Case Unit in the death of 35-year-old Edwin Lee Daniels.

"Major Case detectives believe Woodard stabbed Daniels multiple times with a kitchen knife on the night of April 13th at the couple’s home," Gant added.

Those detectives became suspicious when they responded to the home at 1201 Howland Boulevard in Deltona soon after the call for help came in around 10:15 p.m. that night, per Gant.

"Woodard told detectives she was sleeping in the master bedroom when Daniels was murdered, and that he must have been killed by an intruder in the house," Gant added. "The bed in the master bedroom was made and undisturbed, and as the investigation progressed, other evidence and details emerged that contradicted Woodard’s story."

VCSO is not releasing any other details about the case at this time, including a possible motive.
