Port Orange Police Officer Accidentally Shoots Self In Leg At Police Training Range

New Smyrna Beach, FL - A Port Orange police officer was sent to the hospital after he accidentally shot himself in the leg at a training range Tuesday morning. The officer was conducting training at the New Smyrna Beach Police Shooting Range at approximately 11 AM on Tuesday when he suffered what appears to be an accidental self-inflicted injury to the calf. The injuries were not life-threatening, and the officer is in stable condition and being treated for his injuries at the hospital. The officer is newly hired by the Department. According to the Port Orange Police Department (POPD), the incident is still under investigation, and the name of the officer is not being released due to family considerations.
