Port Orange, FL - Port Orange residents could soon hear the cluck of chickens in their neighborhood. City Council may reconsider allowing "urban chickens." A successful experiment in Deltona has them thinking about it with restrictions, of course.

Assistant City Manager Al Rosen said the issue should be on the agenda in August. He has staff gathering information on what other communities have done and who has been successful.

Rosen said they declined this issue in 2014 but they will revisit the idea. Council will use the information gathered by staff on ordinances and regulations. Rosen said permitting fees will also be discussed. Other communities have minimal fees to cover staff time and costs.

At this time, the "urban chicken" issue is on the agenda for August 16. City residents are encouraged to share their input.
