Port Orange Man Who Went Missing Before Irma Found Dead In The Halifax

Port Orange, FL – The body of a Port Orange man that went missing just before Hurricane Irma was found floating in the Halifax River.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, September 10, the Port Orange Police Department discovered a vehicle parked at a boat ramp on Dunlawton Ave. Police found keys and a wallet belonging to Richard Dorfner, 84, the registered owner of the vehicle. At this point, Dorfner’s family was notified and he was filed as a missing person.

Later that morning at around 7 AM, police were informed that a body was floating in the river. The body was identified as Dorfner. Police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances around Dorfner’s death as he was considered a longtime fisherman. It is believed that Dorfner accidentally fell into the water after trying to look at the river’s conditions.
