Port Orange Man Says He Was Attacked And Shot On His Way To The Store

Port Orange, FL - A 45-year-old Port Orange man says he was attacked and shot near his home while he was on his way to the store early Monday morning.

Police were dispatched at around 12:52 AM to a call at 71 Golden Gate Cir. in Port Orange. Forty-five-year-old Larry Adkins was screaming for help by an open vehicle in front of the building, along with another man, Joshua Justice, who was attempting to tourniquet Adkins's wounded leg with a belt. Adkins told police he had been shot. In addition to the wound on his leg, Adkins was also holding a towel to a gunshot wound on his hand. According to the police report, one shot had caused both wounds.

EVAC and Port Orange Fire Rescue arrived and transported Adkins to Halifax Health in Daytona Beach. While he was receiving medical care, Adkins said that he was on his way to the store when he was attacked and shot.

Officers spoke with four other witnesses, according to the incident report. Two women were also found inside the house. One was sleeping in the living room, and the other said she was cleaning the master bedroom.

Police are still investigating this incident.
