Volusia County, FL - FHP has charged a 39-year-old Port Orange man with DUI and other counts in a fatal hit-run early Sunday morning.

Troopers say Craig Howitt was driving a 2000 Nissan Xterra westbound on US-92 in the right lane when it hit a 2013 Honda moped from behind being driven by 18-year-old Nicholas Eason of DeLand.  That happened near Marsh Road.

Troopers say Eason was thrown onto the hood of the Xterra by the impact. Howitt continued on and hit a sign, stopping briefly and then driving away. He was stopped a short time later two miles from the accident scene by a DeLand police officer.

Howitt was placed under arrest by FHP.

Howitt has been charged with DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal crash. He was booked into the VCBJ and held on no bond.

A check of jail records shows Howitt was charged with DUI in 2013.
