Port Orange Library To Host Free Event About Constitutional Revision

Posted

Port Orange, FL - You can learn more about how changes are made to the Florida Constitution when Clay Meek, a member of The Florida Bar, comes to the Port Orange Regional Library for a free discussion on Florida's Constitutional Revision process. Once every 20 years, a 37-member Constitution Revision Commission conducts a thorough review and proposes amendments to the Florida Constitution, according to Volusia County officials. The amendments will go on the November ballot for voters. Florida is the only state that has this type of process. Volusia County officials say that a recent survey showed that nine out of ten Floridians are unaware of this process. In October, The Florida Bar launched a statewide public education program to fill the void in Floridians’ awareness of constitution revision and engage them in this critical process. That program is called “Protect Florida Democracy: Our Constitution, Our Rights, Our Courts.” If you would like to participate in the discussion about constitutional revision, the event takes place at 2 PM Tuesday, March 6, at the Port Orange Regional Library, located at 1001 City Center Circle. There are no reservations required for this free event. For more information, call 386-322-5152, option 4. Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2018.
