Port Orange Couple Charged In Accidental Shooting Death Of Their Grandson

Posted
Port Orange, FL - A Port Orange couple is facing charges for the accidental shooting death of their 8-year-old grandson, an incident which happened back in July. Robert and Sabrina Potter were charged with culpable negligence on Tuesday, February 21, for having a loaded weapon within reach of minors - a weapon their 12-year-old grandson found and accidentally shot his 8-year-old brother Christopher Scurry with. Detectives determined that because the couple went to firearm classes, combined with the fact that Sabrina is a retired firefighter, they knew proper firearm safety and should have locked up their gun, which was left in an unlocked filing cabinet (easily accessible to a minor) next to a refrigerator where the boys would get snacks for themselves.
