Holly Hill, FLUpdate: The Ormond Beach Police Department has identified the person who was killed in Wednesday's fatal wreck in Holly Hill as Joseph Jay Wixted, 15, from Holly Hill. His family has been notified and the investigation is still ongoing. Earlier Reporting: A crash that left one man dead on Wilmette Ave. near the Florida East Coast Railroad tracks is currently being investigated in connection with a stolen vehicle. A VCSO deputy attempted to stop a red Chrysler Sebring that was traveling on North Nova Rd. at approximately 2:23 AM June 7th. The vehicle did not stop, but instead made a U-turn, made a right turn on Wilmette Ave., and continued to speed. The deputy did not pursue. At about 2:28 AM that morning, Central Dispatch received a report of a large crashing sound at the end of West St. When officers searched, they found nothing at first, but later found evidence that a vehicle had left the roadway. Upon searching on foot, Ormond Beach Police discovered an unidentified male, dead at the scene, and a vehicle upside down in a boggy marsh. When officers contacted the registered owner of the vehicle, the owner did not even realize the vehicle was gone. That vehicle was reported stolen and is believed to be the same one that fled the deputy. Ormond Beach Police are continuing to investigate the incident, and more information will be released when available. Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2017.
