Ormond Beach, FL - The suspicious incident reported to police on Friday, September 11th, involving someone claiming to be an Uber driver was actually just a misunderstanding - the man police were looking for actually was an Uber driver.

The original narrative was that a group of women were waiting for an Uber driver outside the Grind in Ormond Beach when someone claiming to be an Uber driver with the same name (Ron) as the driver they were waiting for approached them. He asked if they had called for Uber, they said they had, and he told them to get in his car.

One of the women noticed that the driver and vehicle info in the  Uber app didn't match the driver and car in front of her. Then the correct driver pulled up and they got in his car.

Ormond Beach Police Detectives found a confirmed Uber driver named Ron with a car that matched the description given by the women. He told the detectives he got a ride request at the Grind on the date and time of the incident. He said after the women got in the other car he drove around the block a few times to see if anyone else was looking for an Uber, but he eventually left the area without a fare.

He showed detectives screenshots from his Uber account proving he had a cancelled ride at a time and location consistent with his account of the incident.

Initial reporting on the incident can be found here.
