New Smyrna Beach, FL - A New Smyrna Beach man was arrested for child neglect after police say he left his 2-year-old son in a running vehicle and then destroyed his own furniture with an ax. Police responded to the scene on 10th Ave. in New Smyrna Beach at about 8:22 PM on Saturday after 35-year-old Jonathan Adams, of New Smyrna, was reported to have left his young son in a running vehicle for about 15 minutes while Adams was sleeping inside his home. Adams's father was the one who alerted police. Adams's sister told police she found the toddler in the running vehicle with the door open. The child was calling for Adams. The sister called her father. The father then found Adams passed out on his bed and tried to wake him up, according to arrest reports. When Adams woke up, he was remorseful for leaving the toddler in the vehicle, reports say. Adams then became angry and began to break up his own furniture with an ax, but he eventually calmed down after the father took away the ax. Adams was arrested for child neglect and held on $2,500 bond.
