At-Fault Driver Arrested In Port Orange Crash That Left 3 People In Critical Condition

Port Orange, FLUpdate: The driver responsible for a multi-vehicle wreck in Port Orange that left three people in critical condition has been arrested and is now facing multiple traffic related charges. Derek Calnan, 28, has been identified as the at-fault driver and was taken into custody without incident at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach. He's being held at the Volusia County Jail without bond. Calnan is facing the following charges: 1 count of reckless driving with serious bodily injury, three counts of DUI with serious bodily injury, and three counts of DUI with property damage.

Earlier Reporting: Police are investigating a crash that left three people in critical condition Monday morning near the intersection of Nova Rd. and Dunlawton Ave. in Port Orange. The crash occurred at approximately 7:49 AM when a vehicle was speeding northbound on Nova Rd. and ran a red light. That vehicle collided with several others. The driver and two passengers of the first vehicle that was struck were trapped inside the car and had to be extricated. All three people were taken to Halifax Hospital, and the roadway was closed for several hours. The at-fault driver was taken into custody under Baker Act provisions, and charges are still pending.
