Ormond Beach, FL - Police in Ormond Beach are still investigating why an officer's cruiser's back window shattered Wednesday and prompted a brief closure of a portion of A1A from River Beach Dr. to Mislap Rd.

The incident took place at the 200 Block of Cardinal Dr. at 11:02 AM. Ormond Beach Police were initially called to investigate an assault that took place by the Pirate's Cove Miniature Golf Course. The officers questioned the suspect and the victim in the assault case, and when one officer went back into the patrol car to check the suspect's name for warrants, he heard a pop sound coming from the driver's rear side window. The rear window shattered.

The officer thought at first that a gunshot could have broken the window, so he took cover and called for assistance. Authorities began conducting a search for a gunman, but the search was called off when no projectile was found. A1A was reopened around 1:15 PM on Wednesday.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should call the Ormond Beach Police Department at 386-677-0731. You can also remain anonymous by calling Crimestoppers at 277-TIPS or toll-free 1-888-277-TIPS. Anyone providing information to Crimestoppers may qualify for a reward of up to $1000.
