Chase Ends In Arrest Of Home Burglar In Palm Coast

flagler-county-sheriff-logo Bunnell, FL-A Bunnell man is in the Flagler County Jail after being arrested on multiple charges following a burglary of an occupied dwelling in Palm Coast.
The investigation shows that the homeowner came home about 10:45 to find a gray Dodge Charger that he did not recognize in his driveway.  As he entered the home, a black male ran past him, yelling and grunting. The suspect jumped in the Charger, ran over the mailbox and sped away. The homeowner called 9-1-1 and gave a detailed description.
At approximately 10:57 p.m., an FCSO deputy and officer from the Bunnell Police Department stopped the car in the area of West SR 100 and East Black Point Road. The deputy attempted to make contact with the driver and as he did, the driver sped away at speeds in excess of 100 mph. Another deputy observed the Dodge Charger traveling without headlights at a high rate of speed in the area of CR 15 and West SR 100.
The deputy saw the car’s brake lights come on and turn to the right. When the deputy arrived where he had seen the car turn right, he discovered that the car had crashed into the guardrail near CR 45 on West SR 100. Upon exiting his car, the deputy could hear someone running in the canal along SR 100. Deputies were able to catch the man and arrested him without incident.
Maurice D. Godwin is charged with burglary of a structure, burglary of an occupied dwelling, felony theft, both aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude and fleeing and attempting to elude, resisting an officer without violence, criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools, possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis, violation of probation, driving with a suspended license, and an Alachua County warrant for a Writ of Bodily Attachment.
He remains in the Flagler County Jail.
