DeLand, FL - A fugitive, wanted out of DeLand for impregnating a child in 2015, has been apprehended by police. On Monday, May 7, 41-year-old Israel Cervantes was arrested at a residence on Becca Ln. in DeLand on an open warrant out of Volusia County. In October 2015, a Volusia County judge issued a warrant for Cervantes's arrest on charges of lewd or lascivious battery or sex act on a child between the ages of 12 and 15 years old and the impregnation of a child. The original incident was first reported on January 20, 2015, when the 15-year-old victim's mother informed Volusia County Sheriff's deputies that she suspected her daughter had a sexual relationship with Cervantes. Days prior to the report, the victim's mother found out her daughter was approximately 23 weeks pregnant. The victim later told investigators that Cervantes was the father of her baby and that they had begun a sexual relationship when she was 14 years old. Efforts to contact or locate Cervantes through October 2015 were met with negative results. In the incident report for Cervantes' arrest, police say the reporting party informed law enforcement that Cervantes was back at his residence.
