Flagler Beach, FL - A small plane made an emergency landing on the State Rd. 100 bridge in Flagler Beach on Sunday night and caught fire, but the pilot and passenger escaped without injury. At approximately 8:03 PM on Sunday, Jacksonville Region Communication Center (JRCC) received a call about a plane crash on State Rd. Road 100, east of County Road 201, according to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The plane was located in the left travel lane eastbound on the State Rd. 100 bridge. The plane was a 1960 Mooney M2OC with a Lycoming engine flown by 35-year-old Stevan Locki of Ft. Lauderdale. The passenger, 34-year-old Brandi Lee Bishop, is from Miami.

After the plane had refueled at Flagler Airport, it began to lose power, and the plane's engine and all the electronics on board failed mid-flight. At one point, the plane had caught on fire. Locki told FHP that he had no choice but to land the plane on the roadway and that traffic was clear before landing. Flagler County Fire Department, Flagler Beach Police, and Flagler County Sheriff's Office all assisted at the scene of the landing. The aircraft was removed by Flagler Air Exchange (FAE) and taken to an FAE facility for further investigation. Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are conducting a separate investigation. No charges are pending at this time, and alcohol is not thought to be a factor.
