New Smyrna Beach, FL – A small plane crashed in New Smyrna Beach around 3:30 PM today.

The plane crashed near Pioneer Trail and Airport Rd and the pilot was the only occupant. “Only one person was in the plane, and thankfully we’re hearing that he walked away from it with only some cuts and scrapes, and very minor ones at that,” said Andrew Gant, Public Information Officer with VCSO. “Thankfully he’s OK, just a damaged plane and no lives lost and no serious injuries, so we’re thankful for that.”

The crash started a small brush fire around the plane, but it was quickly extinguished.

The FAA is investigating.
