Volusia County, FL – Pill dealers and many of their regular customers are cooling their heels in the Volusia County Jail after a six-month investigation ended in a series of early-morning raids.
“Operation Pills N’Whips” resulted in more than a dozen arrests on Tuesday with VCSO Deputy Chief Eric Dietrich promising there are more arrests to come. Dietrich said that the dealers were moving 4,000 to 5,000 Oxycodone and Dilaudid pills per month.
One of the outstanding suspects is the group’s reputed ringleader, 21-year-old Ra’Keem Thomas of DeLand, along with his main pill supplier, 28-year-old Jason Ashe of Maitland.
Agents have been working undercover since early November, putting many suspects under surveillance and following them to drug deals. Most of the defendants are from Volusia County but agents linked several members who live in Flagler, Orange, Seminole and St. Johns counties. A father-daughter duo, 52-year-old Stanley Vermillion and 26-year-old Kayle Vermillion, was also arrested in the operation.
Charges range from Conspiracy to Deliver, Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver and use of a 2-way communication device to commit a felony.
