Daytona Beach, FL-Progress to report on the new Tom Staed Veterans Memorial Bridge in Daytona Beach as pile-driving gets underway Thursday. Gerry Brinton, director of Volusia County Engineering, says the demolition of the existing drawbridge at Orange Avenue/Silver Beach is about 50% complete now. Crews will begin driving 225 concrete pilings for the new span with a series of test pile-drivings to check the riverbed. Brinton tells the Volusia Today show on WNDB that the process is noisy and people in the area can expect to hear the sound and notice some vibration. Pile driving will be done from 7A to 5:30P Monday through Friday. Weekend work may be done upon request and approval by the county. Pile driving is expected to go on for 12 months. 2016 Southern Stone Communications Copyright
