Pierson Mayor James Sowell Passes Away At 81

Pierson, FL – A report from the Town Clerk of Pierson confirms the loss of a city leader.

Yesterday (March 19th), Carmen Spelorzi, Town Clerk of Pierson, reported that Mayor James Sowell passed away at the age of 81 on Monday (March 18th).

Sperlorzi said that a memorial will be held next Tuesday (March 26th) at the Pierson United Methodist Church, found off 136 West Second Avenue beginning at 11 a.m.

Overflow parking is available at Town Hall. Flowers are welcomed and/or a donation to the Florida Methodist Children’s Home.

They also said that the appointment of a new mayor will be discussed that same day during their city council meeting.

Sowell became Mayor of Pierson in November of 2000.
