Person Of Interest In NSB Homicide Caught & Arrested In DeLand

DeLand, FL - Volusia County Sheriff's Office (VCSO) has confirmed that a person of interest in a New Smyrna Beach homicide has been caught and arrested in DeLand after a standoff with law enforcement that lasted for hours on Friday. 37-year-old Willie Singleton Jr. is wanted for questioning in the murder of Andre Overstreet in New Smyrna Beach on February 5, according to New Smyrna Beach police. He is also wanted by New Smyrna police for assault with a deadly weapon. Law enforcement responded on Friday morning to a residence on South Delaware Ave. in DeLand after information suggesting that Singleton could be hiding out in the residence, DeLand police say. A standoff ensued which prompted the lockdown of nearby schools, including Starke Elementary and Southwestern Middle School. Singleton was eventually taken into custody Friday afternoon. The homicide investigation is ongoing. More information will be released as it becomes available.
