Daytona Beach, FL - Passenger traffic numbers at Daytona Beach International Airport continued to rise in August, and officials think those numbers will keep heading north.
Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport in August was up 15.5% over August of last year. 59,307 passengers flew in or out of the airport during that month, compared to 51,335 the year before.
For the 12 month period ending on Aug 31, total passenger traffic at DBIA rose 8.75% to 624,959 passengers, compared to 679,623 last year. "The addition of Jet Blue has really led to an increase of between 6 and 8 percent," said Jay Cassens, Business Development Director at DBIA. "Plus the additional capacity that was offered by the other air carriers." Capacity, or the number of seats, offered at DBIA increased by 24 percent in August.
“It is great to see our monthly passenger traffic for August 2016 up 49 percent compared to six years ago in August 2010,” said Airport Director Rick Karl. “Traffic continues to trend upwards, as does JetBlue’s recent load factors. August was JetBlue’s strongest month since commencing service in January. The recent trends bode well as we head into the fall and winter seasons. We are continuing an aggressive marketing campaign during the fall which is normally a slower air travel season across the country. We are cautiously optimistic that our growth will remain consistent in the next few months and if that happens, it’s very positive heading into 2017.”
August marked the 10th month in a row of year-over-year passenger traffic increases at DBIA.
Cassens was excited to add, "we have a terminal renovation project that's going to be starting up. We just selected the consulting firm to design the terminal renovations, and that design process will probably be complete within the next 6 months or so."
