Palm Coast, FL - The trial date for a 21-year-old former Palm Coast high school football star was set for Tuesday, November 13.
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office is reporting that
Phillip Haire, who was offered a plea deal and refused it last month, changed his mind today and accepted the plea deal to spend the next 25 years in prison.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly was in the courtroom this afternoon and said, "While I would have preferred a sentence of life in prison, which he was facing, I believe justice has been served."
Haire was charged with seven felonies, including second degree attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. The incidents happened in 2017 and Haire has been in the Flagler County Jail since May 3, 2017.
Haire will serve a mandatory minimum sentence of twenty years in state prison for the charges of carjacking with a firearm, burglary with a firearm and attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer. The sentences for the remaining charges will be served concurrently.
Once Haire gets out of prison, he'll begin ten years of supervised probation with special conditions of a mental health evaluation and drug screening. His driver's license is also revoked for life.
