Palm Coast Home Burglary Interrupted By Alert Neighbor

Palm Coast, FL – Three teenagers are in trouble with the law after authorities say they were caught in the act of breaking into and entering a home in Palm Coast’s R-section.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 6 o’clock last night (August 13th) on Riverina Drive after getting this 911 call from a concerned neighbor.

“This is a great example of neighbors watching out for each other and a caller ‘seeing something, hearing something and saying something,’” added Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly. “Our deputies were quick to respond and [catch] them in the act.”

The neighbor reported hearing what sounded like broken glass and decided to call for help after reaching out to the owner – who was in Kentucky at the time – and learning that no one was supposed to be inside.

First responders found a broken window on the east side of the home and immediately established a perimeter. After deputies issued a command for anyone inside to come out, the three teens – a 15-year-old female who had been reported missing from Ormond Beach, a 16-year-old female from Palm Coast and 18-year-old Dezmon D. Kearse of Daytona Beach – came out of the house and were taken into custody without incident.

A search of the home afterward turned up mainly electronic items – including a television – piled up next to the door for quick removal, per the incident report.

All three suspects are charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, with Kearse held without bond at Flagler County Jail. The underage girls were released to family members after consultation with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. Both were scheduled for court dates earlier today.

The arrest is the third for Kearse so far this year, per FCSO. That includes a previous arrest for aggravated battery in Volusia County.
