Over 1 Million Ballots Cast In Florida For August Primary

Daytona Beach, FL – More than a million of the state’s 13 million registered voters have already cast ballots – either by mail or at early-voting locations – for the primary elections later this month, including over 42,000 in Volusia and Flagler counties.

The early voting period opened statewide on Saturday, with over 4,000 residents in Volusia and Flagler going that route as of Monday morning, according to the Florida Division of Elections.

In Volusia, 2,886 voters have cast early ballots, with registered Democrats (1,392) holding a slight lead over registered Republicans (1,242) and the remaining 252 coming from those with no party or other party affiliation.

Flagler’s seen 1,142 early voters so far, with 644 Republicans and 434 Democrats taking part. 64 have no party or other party affiliation.

33,808 Volusia residents have voted by mail so far, according to the Supervisor of Election’s office, with Republicans (16,099) leading the way, followed by Democrats (11,838) and no party/other party affiliation (5,871).

In Flagler, 4,640 have voted by mail, with the GOP (2,453) ahead of Democrats (1,656) and 531 coming in as no party/other party affiliation.

At the state level, Republicans have cast 475,973 ballots, including 402,881 through vote-by-mail ballots and 73,092 at early-voting locations, while Democrats have cast 423,409 ballots, of which 344,753 were sent in by mail and another 78,656 were cast at early-voting sites.

Voters registered without a political party had cast 121,279 ballots, 110,831 through the mail and 10,448 by early voting. Another 3,422 ballots had been cast by people registered with third parties, of which 2,987 were vote-by-mail ballots.

Early voting runs through Saturday statewide and will continue Sunday in some counties, including Volusia. Flagler’s will end on Saturday.

Anyone who wishes to vote by mail has until 5 p.m. Wednesday to request a ballot with their local supervisor of elections.
