Tallahassee, FL - An Ormond Beach woman takes home a big pot of money thanks to a $10 scratch-off ticket.
44-year-old Kathleen Moore won the top prize of $2 million in the Gold Rush Classic game sponsored by the Florida Lottery.
Public Affairs Specialist Lizeth George tells us Moore bought the winning ticket at the Racetrac gas station on 1510 South Ridgewood Avenue in Daytona Beach.
"She chose to receive her winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $1,405,000," George added. "The retailer will receive a $4,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket."
Moore traveled to Tallahassee to claim her prize and declined the chance to take a photo with her winning check, according to George.
It's not clear when Moore bought her ticket but George tells us she did claim her prize on Wednesday (March 13th).
The Gold Rush Classic game offers ten top prizes of $2 million, with overall odds of having that ticket being one in 3,360,000.
At least 755 people have become millionaires through a Florida Lottery scratch-off game since those games were introduced in 1993, with nearly $12 billion in scratch-off ticket sales going directly to fund public education since 1988.
Scratch-offs make up around 69% of ticket sales, per Florida Lottery data.
The Florida Lottery has paid out more than $34 billion to education and funded over 800,000 students through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
