Ormond Beach, FL - The Ormond Beach Police Department (OBPD) has released the identity of the woman who was found dead on the side of an Ormond Beach road on Monday. Police responded at 8:57 AM Monday to the 100 block of Bennett Ln., near Granada Blvd. and Tomoka Ave., after someone in a work truck drove by and reported the body of a woman lying on the side of the road. OBPD ruled the incident a suspicious death. OBPD, along with the Osceola County Sheriff's Office (OCSO), identified the woman as 42-year-old Janice Marie Zengotita-Torres of Kissimmee, FL. Her next-of-kin has been notified. According to a news release from OBPD, the OCSO contacted OBPD and informed them of a woman who was missing from their jurisdiction. The two agencies worked together to identify the woman, Zengotita-Torres, as the woman who was found dead in Ormond Beach. On Friday morning, investigators with OCSO also identified a person of interest in the case, and that person was taken into custody by OCSO investigators. No further information has been released at this time. OCSO is now taking over as the lead investigative agency in this case, and OBPD will also aid in the investigation.
