Ormond Beach, FL – The Ormond Beach Police Department (OBPD) is investigating an incident that occurred Friday evening at an Ormond Beach Dollar General where an unknown transient man approached a boy while the boy’s mother was in the store, and the man asked the boy to “come with him.”

Police say the man approached the boy while he was waiting for his mother by the car at the Dollar General at 1545 N. U.S. 1 in Ormond Beach. The mother was at the cash register at the store. The boy did not respond to the man’s request.

While the boy was in the car, leaving the store parking lot with his mother, he told the mother about the incident. Police were dispatched at about 8:09 PM.

Store video surveillance showed a man fitting the suspect’s description go into the store, make a purchase with cash, and leave, according to police reports. Employees told officers that the man goes by the name “Jason.” Employees told police that the man is a regular customer, but they do not know his full name or whereabouts. They said “Jason” has not given the store any problems in the past.

Police are asking if anyone has any information about the case to contact the Ormond Beach Police Department at 386-677-0731. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously at 277-TIPS or toll-free 1-888-277-TIPS. Those with information may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
