Ormond Beach Residents Warned Of Utility Scam

Ormond Beach, FL-On Tuesday of this week, an Ormond Beach homeowner had a visit from two six foot tall white male suspects, identifying themselves as from the water department.  They said they were there to check water quality in the home.

One suspect kept the homeowner busy with the water test while the other said he was checking the water pressure in the rest of the house. When they were gone, the homeowner discovered that a small safe located by her bed was missing along with a large amount of jewelry.

The missing jewelry includes a ten 24 kt yellow gold chains with pendants attached, thirty miscellaneous gold earrings,twenty-four 18 kt gold bracelets, three white gold 15 kt diamond earrings, and twenty 24 kt yellow gold pendants.  The total value of all missing jewelry is $48,300.00.

The two men were wearing baseball hats, white tee shirts with polo style shirts over them and dark pants.  The victim described one man as being heavyset and having a "pot belly."

The Ormond Beach Police Department reminds residents to always ask for credentials and identification before letting anyone you don't know into your home. You should also contact local police if you have any doubts.
