Ormond PD Veteran "Jesse" Godfrey Named Police Chief

Ormond Beach police logo Ormond Beach, FL - The city of Ormond Beach has announced its next Chief of Police. Robert "Jesse" Godfrey was selected to be Ormond's next Chief of Police after an extensive selection process involving 90 applicants. Chief Godfrey has been working in law enforcement for 28 years. He began his lengthy career in July 1988 as an officer with the Ormond Beach Police Department where he stayed until October 1989. He returned to Ormond in May 2011 as a Lieutenant and came up through the ranks to become a Captain in October 2014. Chief Godfrey has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from UCF. He graduated from the 252nd U.S. Department of Justice National FBI Academy as well as the 47th Southern Police Institute Command Officers Program. "Jesse has the respect of the men and women of the Ormond Beach Police Department and the community," said City Manager Joyce Shanahan. "He is a strong advocate of community policing and D.A.R.E. Programs. His intimate knowledge of the Department will be invaluable as we adopt innovative approaches and employ 21st-century technology to meet the City's future public safety needs." Mayor Ed Kelley will administer the oath of office to Chief Godfrey on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. A public reception will be held after the oath.
