Orange City Woman Charged After Making Up Her Abduction, Lying To Deputies

Orange City, FL - The 31-year-old Orange City woman who was found on Thursday after being reported missing has now been charged after deputies learned she made up the entire story.

On Tuesday, Erin Boyd’s boyfriend reported her as missing after he had not seen or heard from her since Sunday night. On Thursday, after an “extensive” search by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO), Boyd was found safe by herself at the Chimney Corner Motel in DeLand.

According to the VCSO, Boyd was “evasive” on the subject of her disappearance. At the motel, Boyd called 911 asking for deputies to let her out of her room, seeming like she was being held against her will. She tried to tell a deputy that she was being intimidated by someone into leaving her house and coming to the motel. Boyd also said that her phone was taken from her.

A deputy then found her phone inside the motel room toilet after it was previously empty. Boyd was charged with making a false report to law enforcement and knowingly making a false official statement. Both are misdemeanor charges.
