Orange City, FL4/22/18 Update: The Orange City Police Department has identified the deceased man who was found in Duck Lake on Saturday night as William Edward Brown, 46, a transient who lived in Orange City.

Earlier Reporting:

The Orange City Police Department (OCPD) is investigating after a body was found floating in Duck Lake near Veteran’s Memorial Parkway.

At around 10 PM on Saturday, police received third-party reports of a possible body in the area. With the help of the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office's Air One helicopter, officers were able to see what appeared to be a body floating near the center of the lake.

According to OCPD, the lake is difficult to access via ground. The Orange City Fire Department responded to cut away several trees and branches so emergency vehicles could access the scene.

A small John boat and trailer were still too large to fit through the cut path, so kayaks were used to transport investigators and Medical Examiner’s staff to the body. The body appeared to be that of an adult white male. According to OCPD, there were no obvious signs of trauma.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to complete an autopsy by early next week. The case remains under investigation at this time. If you have information, you are urged to contact the OCPD at 386-775-5474.
