Daytona Beach, FL-Once again this year, the FWC is taking part in the national crackdown on boating under the influence called "Operation Dry Water". This year's three-day enforcement campaign is June 24-26 and is in partnership with the US Coast Guard. The FWC's Greg Workman says last year there were more than 900,000 registered boats in Florida. A total of 326 citations were issued in FL during 2015 for operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol of drugs. Workman points to his own experience on patrol near Disappearing Island in the Ponce Inlet area and says the sheer number of boats on the water in areas like that gives boaters little margin for error. In 2015, 20% of fatal boating accident victims were related to drug or alcohol use accidents. The number of fatal drug or alcohol boating accidents increased in 2015 and totaled 11 fatalities.
