FHP: Medical Episode May Have Led To DeLeon Crash

DeLeon Springs, FL - A 65-year-old DeLeon Springs man is dead after his vehicle went off the road through two fences and a pasture before hitting a driveway gate, but troopers think he may have died before the accident happened.

The Florida Highway Patrol says George L. Figueroa's body was found in a 1997 Ford F-150 by a passing motorist just before 6 o'clock this morning (October 30th) on Lake Johnson Road near Campbell Lane.

According to the incident report, Figueroa was driving the Ford eastbound on Lake Johnson when the vehicle left the road on the south side of Campbell, going through a fence and into a pasture.

Troopers think the Ford then crashed through another fence and crossed over Campbell going northeast until it stopped after striking the driveway gate of a home on Campbell.

Per the report, FHP found no crash-related trauma on Figueroa's body or any signs that he tried to get back on the road or hit the brakes, leading them to think he had some kind of medical episode just before the crash happened.

The report noted that Figueroa wasn't wearing a seat belt and that it's not clear at this point if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
