New Smyrna Beach, FL – A man is at Halifax Medical Center in critical condition after the 2003 Chevy SUV he was traveling in rear-ended an 18-wheeler.

The accident happened about 7:30 a.m. today in the eastbound lanes of  State Road 44 just before Tomoka Farms Road.

The incident report from Florida Highway Patrol states both vehicles were in the right lane when the 18-wheeler slowed to make a right turn at Kirkland Drive.  For an unknown reason, the SUV failed to slow down.
