Update:  Florida Highway Patrol has identified the driver as 40-year-old Alex Diana of Orange City.

Lake Helen, FL - Investigators are now trying to identify a man found dead in a burning car tonight (September 25th) on Interstate 4.

The accident happened around 8:40 p.m. on the eastbound side of Mile Marker 115, just north of Cassadaga Road.

Florida Highway Patrol Lieutenant Kim Montes says the driver of a 2002 Isuzu Axiom lost control and went off the road.

"The front of the [Isuzu] struck a piece of construction equipment that was on the grass shoulder and caught fire," Montes added.

The fire was extinguished soon after crews arrived on scene, according to a spokesperson with Volusia County's firefighters' union.

It's not clear who the man is or if alcohol or drugs played any role, but Montes says it appears as though he was the driver and that no one else was in the vehicle.

Troopers think no other vehicles were involved, basing that on eyewitnesses.

FHP rerouted eastbound traffic onto State Road 472 until investigators completed their work.
