SeaBreeze High Student Hit And Killed By Train In Ormond Beach

ORMOND TRAIN Ormond Beach, FL-An 18-year-old Seabreeze High School student, Robert M. Harris, has been confirmed as the person killed in an accident on the Tomoka River Trestle on Sunday evening. Ormond Beach Police said the accident happened around 7:45 P.M., near U.S. 1 and Airport Road. Ormond Beach Police PIO Officer Keith Walker said the Florida East Coast Railway notified the Ormond Beach Police that one of their trains struck a person by the Tomoka River Trestle. The train crew told investigators that they saw a person on the tracks and started emergency procedures by sounding the whistle and applying the brakes. The crew also reported that Harris got up and ran in the direction away from the train. He fell down, regained his footing and continued running. The train was not able to stop.   The incident is still under investigation.  Check back for further updates as information is obtained.
