Officers Arrest Daytona Grandma, 95, For Smacking Granddaughter With Slipper

Daytona Beach, FL - A 95-year-old Daytona Beach grandmother was arrested over the weekend after she smacked her granddaughter in the face with a slipper. At around 11:45 AM on Saturday, May 5, Daytona Beach police (DBPD) responded to 925 Loomis Ave. after receiving a complaint. 95-year-old Hattie Reynolds told officers that her 46-year-old granddaughter would not get out of bed and leave the house when she asked her to. According to Reynolds, her granddaughter screamed and swore at her and verbally refused to leave. Reynolds then starting yelling and ended up smacking her granddaughter in the face with the slipper she was wearing. According to the DBPD, Reynolds called Volusia County Dispatch and asked for law enforcement to respond to her home. The granddaughter told police that she was in her room when Reynolds came in and screamed at her to get up. She said she was on the phone at the time and that she started to scream when Reynolds tried to taker her phone. She confirmed that Reynolds smacked her with the slipper, but she refused to write a statement and said that she did not want to press charges. Reynolds was charged with misdemeanor battery for domestic violence.
