Off-Season Beach Ramp Schedule Goes Into Effect As Peak Season Winds Down

beach ramp daytona Volusia County, FL - As peak season winds down, Volusia County announces it's off-season beach ramp schedule. Milsap Rd., Emilia Ave., and Crawford Rd. beach access ramps are only open on weekends. Williams Ave., University Blvd., Minerva Rd., Van Ave., and El Portal St. will be closed until March of 2017. 13 vehicle access ramps remain open year-round. “As the season winds down, fewer tourists and residents frequent the beaches,” said Jessica Winterwerp, Director of Volusia County’s Coastal Division, which manages the beach access ramps. “After the peak of the season, we reduce the number of vehicle beach access ramps to reduce operating costs. These strategic ramp closures are based on vehicular access ramps with lower usage rates. The off-season schedule will result in a cost savings of an estimated $186,303 to the county’s general fund.” Closures are earlier this year than they were last year, so it's expected that the County will save a little extra money. But, it's difficult to come up with a figure because the contract on how beach ramps are managed has changed from last year to this year - schedules are different, operation costs have changed and pricing for beach access has changed. While some ramps have been closed to vehicles, they all remain open for pedestrians and bicyclists.
