Ocean Center Hosting World Record Attempt

Daytona Beach, FL - A gymnastics club is looking to add their name to the Guinness Book of World Records.

And they're looking to do it here in Daytona Beach.

That club is the relatively new National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Club (NAIGC), and they're going to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most simultaneous back tucks, all on the floor at the Ocean Center.

The NAIGC, which is made up of around 1,600 members, is already hosting their national championships at the Ocean Center, but, Tyler Green, the NAIGC director, figured it'd be a good opportunity to break the record as well.

"We figured why not put our members to work and do something cool," said Green.

Green is hoping that the club can get around 700 or 800 members to participate. But, if they can manage at least 300, they'll beat the current world record for the most simultaneous backflips, which is 250.

"We're trying to get our name out there and boost our name in the greater gymnastics community," said Green. "We think that by breaking a world record, and getting this kind of publicity, we can do just that.

The age range of the participants vary, with Green stating that two of them are aged 55 and 60, and they plan on competing.

The NAIGC also has teams at over 130 different colleges and universities throughout the United States.

Festivities begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday (April 13th) at the Ocean Center, with an athlete processional that will be followed by the attempt, which is planned for 10:45 a.m.

Admission is $10 for adults, children can get in free.
