Ormond Beach, FL - A 69-year-old Ormond Beach man on his way to volunteer at a local hospice center dies after he was run over by a semi-truck.

That's the word from the Ormond Beach Police Department as investigators continue to piece together the circumstances behind the death of Michael G. Kasper.

OBPD Officer Keith Walker says it happened around 6:30 this morning (April 5th) off of West Granada Boulevard/State Road 40 near Seminole Drive.

"[It happened] on the access road between Lowe’s and Panera Bread," Walker added. "[Kasper] died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash."

Detectives believe the semi pulled into the access road as Kasper was walking on it, killing him instantly.

Kasper's family told OBPD that he usually walks daily to the hospice center to volunteer there.

Charges are pending at this point against the driver, who did stop at the scene and cooperated with police, per Walker.

Eastbound traffic on Granada was snarled for much of the morning because of the accident, with police blocking it off completely at one point. Westbound traffic wasn't affected.
