New Smyrna Beach, FL – The New Smyrna Beach Police Department (NSBPD) and Fire Department are holding a 3-day training session for an active shooter situation.

“We want to provide real life training to our officers,” says New Smyrna Beach Police Chief Mike Coffin.

On March 14th, 15th, and 16th, the NSBPD and Fire Department will train at New Smyrna Beach High School, learning techniques like the Swift Assisted Victim Extraction (SAVE) method.

This training session will show first responders, both law enforcement and medics, how to deal with an active shooter situation which is often life-or-death and very unpredictable.

The instructor leading the exercise is Department Training Officer David Williams, who is trained in the SAVE method.

For more information, updates will be posted to the NSBPD’s Facebook and Twitter page.
