Ponce Inlet, FL- Ponce Inlet will be hosting two free events for racing fans to celebrate local racing history on Saturday, February 10.

Volusia County Government officials, the Town of Ponce Inlet, Daytona International Speedway and NASCAR will unveil a historical marker at 9 a.m. at Winterhaven Park, 4589 S Atlantic Ave., Ponce Inlet. Just in front of the park is a small stretch of the original Atlantic Avenue, which was part of the 4.1-mile course where the Grand National Race ran from 1948 until 1958, when it was relocated to the new Super Speedway, today known as Daytona International Speedway.

The Historic North Turn Legends Beach Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. in front of Racing’s North Turn restaurant, 4511 S. Atlantic Ave., Ponce Inlet for its seventh annual running. Vintage race cars will run down Atlantic Avenue, making the south turn onto the world’s most famous beach, ending at the famed north turn.

International Speedway Corporation’s Chief Operating Officer Joie Chitwood III, NASCAR Vice Chairman Mike Helton, and 40 or so other drivers will make a lap on the course. The M-2 Ford Chitwood will be driving is a replica built by Glenn McGlone of the car Billy Myers drove to a top 10 finish in the modified/sportsman race. The 1953 Oldsmobile Helton will be driving is a replica built by Bill Blair, Jr., son of Billy Blair, who drove to victory that year in Daytona Beach.

Spectators should park at Toronita Avenue Beach Park, 4200 S. Atlantic Ave., Wilbur-by-the-Sea. Votran will provide free shuttle service to and from the north and south turn beach ramps from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The annual parade is a cooperative partnership among Volusia County Government, the Town of Ponce Inlet and Racing’s North Turn restaurant.
