Nine Inmates Charged In Riot At Volusia Juvenile Jail

Daytona Beach, FL - Nine inmates at the Volusia County Juvenile Detention Facility are facing charges for inciting a riot, leaving two staff members injured.

The Sheriff's Office says one of the inmates took keys from one of the workers while others pulled televisions off the wall around noon yesterday at the facility on Old DeLand Road, refusing to return to their cells when ordered to do so.

It took jail workers around 30 minutes to get everything under control, according to Sheriff's Office spokesperson Laura Williams.

"The cause of the incident is still under investigation," Williams added.

All the inmates are between the ages of 13 and 18.
